Test If Morton’s Neuroma Is Suspected

This test is performed if the patient complains about ‘shooting’ pains in the toes.

Procedure

  • The patient should sit on the examination table with the lower legs dangling down and no weight on the feet.
  • Hold the forefoot with one hand and use this hand to exert lateral and medial compression [Figure 139].
  • Compare the findings from the left and the right foot.

Figure 139

  • The outcome is positive if the patient experiences the same shooting pain during the test as previously reported.
  • Aetiology: compression of digital nerves.

Be wary of false-negative results.
