Material
- Pressure-distributing layer (padding): 1 roll of non-absorbent cotton wool wadding or 1 roll of synthetic wadding, 6 cm wide.
- Fixing layer: Cambric bandage roll, 6 cm wide.
Procedure
- Apply the padding to the middle of the hand, wrist and part of the forearm using spiral turns.
- Leave the thumb uncovered [Figure 86].
Figure 86
- Fix the padding using a roller bandage applied tightly, in a way that ensures even distribution of pressure, using the technique for bandaging the middle of the hand or wrist.
- Apply part of the figure-of-eight bandaging between the middle of the hand and wrist, so that it passes across the back of the hand, and also the palm.
- Cover the pressure-distributing layer around the forearm with a few spiral turns of the roller bandage [Figure 87].
Figure 87
- Finish the bandage with two circular turns.
- After a few minutes, check the peripheral blood flow for signs of vascular congestion [Figure 88].
