Arm Or Leg

Material

  • Pressure-distributing layer (padding): 1 to 2 rolls of non-absorbent cotton wadding or 1 to 2 rolls of synthetic wadding, 6-10-15 cm wide.
  • Fixing layer: Cambric roller bandage, 6-8-10 cm wide.

Procedure

  • Apply the padding in spiral turns around the arm or the leg.
  • Make sure the site of injury is adequately covered on both sides.
  • Make two circular turns with the bandage distal to the padding.
  • Leave 1 cm of the padding uncovered.
  • Cover the padding with spiral turns.
  • Pull the bandage tight and ensure the pressure is evenly distributed.
  • Finish the bandage with a few circular turns.
  • About 1 cm of the padding layer should be left uncovered on both sides.
  • After a few minutes, check the peripheral blood flow for signs of vascular congestion.
