Material
- Pressure-distributing layer (padding): 1 to 2 rolls of non-absorbent cotton wadding or 1 to 2 rolls of synthetic wadding, 6-10-15 cm wide.
- Fixing layer: Cambric roller bandage, 6-8-10 cm wide.
Procedure
- Apply the padding in spiral turns around the arm or the leg.
- Make sure the site of injury is adequately covered on both sides.
- Make two circular turns with the bandage distal to the padding.
- Leave 1 cm of the padding uncovered.
- Cover the padding with spiral turns.
- Pull the bandage tight and ensure the pressure is evenly distributed.
- Finish the bandage with a few circular turns.
- About 1 cm of the padding layer should be left uncovered on both sides.
- After a few minutes, check the peripheral blood flow for signs of vascular congestion.
