Wound Care

A wound is a disturbance in the anatomical structure of body tissue. This definition also encompasses wounds involving subcutaneous tissue, muscles, organs and other structures, even if the skin remains intact. Immediately after an injury has occurred, the body initiates processes to limit the consequences of the injury and to stimulate healing.

The key point of departure in wound care is to create favourable conditions to facilitate nature’s own healing process. This tried and tested strategy aims to prevent the wound from deteriorating and to safeguard the chances of healing.

The measures required to guarantee optimal healing of the wound depend on the type of wound. Therefore, an accurate assessment of the wound is an absolute prerequisite.
