Bandaging Technique – Hinged Joints

This bandaging technique is applied to the knee, elbow and heel. Strictly speaking, the heel is not a hinged joint but part of the ankle joint (refer to the bandage for the mid-foot/ankle).

The bandage consists of a number of circular turns around the part of the body at the olecranon or knee cap and the heel, and a number of figure-of-eight turns on either side of the circular turns.

The possibilities for use with this type of bandaging are limited. It can be used to fix bandaging material for wound dressing on all three above-mentioned parts of the body. This bandaging technique should only be used as a support and compression bandage on the knee. No pressure should be exerted on the elbow crease due to the superficial passage of nerves and blood vessels here. The heel bandage, combined with the midfoot/ankle bandage is only one part of the support and compression bandage.
