Bandaging material can be classed in one of five categories according to their use:
- Wound dressings, subdivided into:
- Dressings which are in immediate contact with the wound.
- Absorbent dressings; combined dressing materials.
- Bandages which provide even pressure distribution
- Fixing bandages.
- Support and immobilising bandages.
- Other bandages and bandaging equipment.
