Procedure
- Select a suitably sized emergency bandage.
- Remove the packaging.
- You may take the emergency bandage out of the packaging using your fingers, as this layer will later be on the outside.
- Take the bandage bundle in both hands.
- The rolls of bandage will be facing upwards, and your thumbs should be placed on the bandage rolls [Figure 71].
Figure 71
- Hold the emergency bandage near the wound.
- Move the two rolls of bandage away from each other.
- The emergency bandage will fold open by itself [Figure 72].
Figure 72
- Place the underside of the emergency bandage directly onto the wound and avoid any further shifting of the compress.
- Use one strip of bandaging to cover the emergency bandage on the distal side of the wound.
- Start with a turn where half of the bandage covers skin and the other half covers the compress.
- Use the rest of the bandage roll to make spiral turns towards the middle of the dressing [Figure 73].
- Retain a strip of bandage of about 15 cm.
- Repeat these steps with the other bandage roll.
Figure 73
- Tie the two strips of bandage together using a reef knot [Figure 74].
