Material
- Pressure distributing layer (padding): 1-2 rolls of non-absorbent cotton wadding or 1-2 rolls of synthetic wadding, 10 cm wide.
- Fixing layer: cambric bandage roll, 8-10 cm wide.
Procedure
- Position the knee joint at a 120° angle.
- Apply the padding with two circular turns, starting from the back of the knee and around across the knee cap.
- Apply the bandage in a figure-of-eight pattern, starting from the back of the knee and fanning out over the upper and lower leg to about 25 cm away from the knee cap in both directions.
- Fix the padding with the roller bandage, using the bandaging technique for knees.
- Leave about 1 cm of the padding uncovered on either side of the bandage.
- After a few minutes, check the peripheral blood flow for signs of vascular congestion.
