Knee Bandage

Material

Roller bandage:

  • Child: 4-8 cm wide.
  • Adult: 8-12 cm wide.

Procedure

  • Bend the knee until it is at an angle of 120°.
  • Place the bandage across the knee cap [Figure 52].

Figure 52

  • Apply two circular turns around the knee, going over the knee cap and around the back of the knee.
  • From the back of the knee, apply a turn around the upper leg [Figure 53].

Figure 53

  • Bring the bandage back down to the back of the knee.
  • In the same way, make a turn around the lower leg [Figure 54].

Figure 54

  • Repeat these figure-of-eight turns.
  • On the flexor side of the knee, the successive turns should cover about two thirds of the width of the previous turns.
  • On the extensor side, all turns should pass across the back of the knee [Figure 55].

Figure 55

  • Finish the bandaging with two circular turns around the lower leg.
  • Fix the end of the roller bandage on the last circular turn.

The knee bandage has been correctly applied if:

  • The angle of the bandaged knee is 120˚.
  • The turns on the flexor side, with the exception of the circular turns, fan outwards and each turn covers two thirds of the width of the previous turn.
  • The turns on the extensor side, with the exception of the last two circular turns, run along the back of the knee [Figure 56].
