Qpercom Actor and Simulated Patient Quick Start Guide

Welcome to the Qpercom Assessment Platform! As an actor or simulated patient, you play a vital role in bringing clinical scenarios to life and ensuring candidates have a realistic, standardised experience.

Whether you are participating in a live Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) or a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI), Qpercom’s automated system is designed to handle all the logistics for you. This means you can focus entirely on your role and your interactions with the candidates.

This quick start guide will walk you through everything you need to know to successfully navigate the platform, from checking your technical setup to interacting with candidates during the assessment.

1. Getting Started: Accessing the Platform

Logging into the system is simple and requires the credentials provided by your assessment team:

  • Navigate to your Qpercom URL: Go to the specific URL provided by your organisation (for actors, this generally follows the format of example.qpercom.com/console).
  • Log In: Enter your unique Identifier along with the password you have received from your assessment team, and click Log in.

2. Crucial Preparation: Virtual Compatibility & Permissions

If you are participating in a live remote assessment, testing your technical setup in advance is mandatory.

  • Camera & Microphone Permissions: When prompted by your browser, you must click Allow to grant permissions for both your camera and microphone so you can be seen and heard during the scenarios.
  • Virtual Compatibility Check: Well in advance of your assessment day, you must complete the Virtual Compatibility Check. This diagnostic test ensures your device, operating system, browser, camera, microphone, and network connection meet all requirements.
  • Troubleshooting: Should you fail the check due to network quality, you will need to find a new location with a more reliable connection and run the test again. Please report any unresolvable technical issues to your assessment team well in advance, as the day of the assessment is too late to troubleshoot.

3. Joining Your Assessment & Adjusting Settings

On the day of the assessment, accessing your assigned station is completely straightforward:

  • Choose Assessment: Once you have completed your compatibility check and the assessment is made accessible, it will appear on your dashboard list. Simply click Choose Assessment to be taken to your designated waiting area.
  • Adjusting Settings: While in your waiting area, you can click the cogs icon to adjust your audio and video input sources. You can also toggle your notification sounds on and off by clicking the notification bell icon.

4. The Assessment Flow: States, Instructions & Interaction

Once you are in your waiting area, Qpercom’s automated state changes will guide you through the entire event. You will always know what is happening by checking the state bar at the top of your screen.

  • Preparation State: Before the first candidate arrives, you will enter the Preparation state. During this time, you will be joined by the assessors assigned to your station, and assessment team administrators may drop in to check on everyone.
  • Station Instructions: When you join your station, you will be presented with your specific set of station instructions outlining your role. You can easily open and close these instructions whenever you need to refer to them during the event.
  • Candidate Interaction: Each time the Assessment state begins, a new candidate will automatically join your station’s video room to interact with you.
  • Debriefing: At the end of each assessment state, the candidate will be automatically removed from the station, giving you a brief opportunity to discuss their performance with the assessors before the next rotation begins.

5. Wrapping Up

You will be informed by the state bar at the top of your screen when the final group has finished and the assessment has officially concluded. Once everything is wrapped up, please safely Logout of Qpercom.

Thank you for your vital contribution to the assessment process!

If you experience any unresolvable technical issues, please report them to your assessment team as soon as possible.
