Rectovaginal examination

In a number of very specific cases it may be indicated to carry out a rectovaginal examination. The particular aim is to properly assess the septum between the rectum and the vagina.
An internal vaginal examination (with the index finger) and an internal rectal examination (with the middle finger) are carried out at the same time.
In the case of endometriosis, to determine the extent of cervical carcinoma invasion, or when identifying a potential rectovaginal fistula.
