Procedure
- The patient sits comfortably with arms bent (90° flexion of the elbows).
- Determine a point 10 cm distally from the lateral epicondyle.
- If necessary, mark this point.
- Subsequently, using a measuring tape, measure perpendicular to the axis of the lower arm across the marked point [Figure 99].
- Note the circumference to the nearest 0.5 cm.
- Compare the circumference of the left and right arm (bear in mind the patient’s dominant hand).
If required, also measure the circumference of the upper arm. Determine a point 10 cm proximally from the lateral epicondyle.
