Mental functions are organised into the following 3 domains:
- Cognitive functions.
- Affective functions.
- Conative functions.
From a didactical point of view, we consider this the standard outline of the mental state examination. In this way, we would like to contribute to a more uniform classification, therefore making the mental status examination more accessible to medical students and physicians. For further details on the background of the psychiatric interview in general and the mental status examination in particular, we refer to the literature mentioned in the preface.
