Required Materials
- Hand-held loupe/forehead loupe [Figures 56, 57].
- Penlight and ophthalmoscope in slit position.

Procedure
Prepare the patient for the examination based on their symptoms.
Ensure the room is dimly lit.
Sit down on a height-adjustable stool beside the patient.
Adjust the height so that your eyes are at the same height as those of the patient.
Put on the forehead loupe and aim the light source at an angle of approximately 45° in relation to the eye.
Depending on the indication for the examination, this can be a pen light, the ‘full moon’-setting of the funduscope, or the slit-shaped lighting.
