Sequence of the examination of the lungs

In this program the most common and optimal examination sequence is described, namely inspection, palpation, percussion and then auscultation. In practice to ensure patient comfort, particularly in the case of ill or elderly patients, the examination will often take place on the examination table or on a bed. In a sitting position the inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation of the dorsolateral parts of the thorax are often carried out in succession so that the patient only has to sit upright once during the examination before the rest of the examination takes place with the patient lying down.
