Running Suture


Wounds may also be closed with continuous sutures, whereby one thread is used without interruption to close the wound. This fast method of suturing also yields attractive results.

Procedure

  • Begin with a simple suture but do not cut the thread [Figure 36].

  • Enter again next to the knot and proceed at an angle under the skin toward the exit opening on the opposite side of the wound.
  • Cross over the wound margin (right angle to the wound).
  • Repeat until the wound is closed.
  • To secure the suture, enter straight under the skin on the last suture and exit directly adjacent to the second to last point of entry.
  • Use the loop of the last suture to tie off the thread.
