This cloth has <strong>two short sides<\/strong> and <strong>one long side<\/strong>. The two short sides form a 90\u00b0 angle. The other two corners of the triangle form 45\u00b0 angles; these are known as the <strong>tails<\/strong>. The sling can be folded into a cravat <strong><em>[Figure 104]<\/em><\/strong>. The tails of the triangular cloth should ideally be tied together using a <strong>reef knot<\/strong>. This knot can be easily loosened without moving the affected body part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"282\" class=\" size-full wp-image-925\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-104.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-104.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-104-300x282.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><span style=\"width: 300px; display: block;\"><strong>Figure 104<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Apply a Sling<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Indications and Contraindications<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Injuries involving the <strong>soft tissue<\/strong> of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">upper arm<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">forearm<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">hand<\/span>, providing the sling does not exert undesired pressure on the injury.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Suspected) <strong>fractures<\/strong> to the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">forearm<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">hand<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contra-indications include: Injury to the <strong>shoulder girdle<\/strong> and (<em>suspected<\/em>) <strong>fractures<\/strong> to the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">upper arm<\/span>. In these cases, use a <strong>cravat<\/strong> to support the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">forearm<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Material\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Triangular cloth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safety pins or tape.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/125229562?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"384\" height=\"288\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Procedure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stand in front or behind the patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bend the elbow and place the forearm against the chest. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure that the hand is about <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">10 cm higher than the elbow<\/span>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By placing the hand higher than the elbow, <strong>venous return<\/strong> in the forearm will not be impaired. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If this preferred position is not possible, select one which is <strong>least painful<\/strong> for the patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the triangular cloth between the wounded arm and the chest, so that the <strong>90\u00b0 corner<\/strong> is next to the elbow and the tail lies across the shoulder of the healthy arm <strong><em>[Figure 105]<\/em><\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slide the cloth via the elbow crease between the arm and the chest if moving the arm is painful or undesirable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"293\" class=\" size-full wp-image-926\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-105.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-105.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-105-300x220.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><span style=\"width: 400px;
