These are the cervical lymph node groups and the external larynx, including the thyroid gland. The former are examined in relation to a number of ENT symptoms because they are the draining lymph node groups. In such cases, the history-taking will concentrate on the organ where the primary symptom is located. The external larynx and thyroid gland have a specific indication for examination and require a specific history-taking.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Prediagnosis<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\">Congenital abnormalities,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\">Obstruction,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\">Inflammation,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\">Tumours,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\">Vascular problems,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\">Trauma,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\">Degenerative disorders <\/span><span style=\"color: #993366;\">involving the:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\"><em>&#8211; thyroid cartilage<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\"><em>&#8211; thyroid gland<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\"><em>&#8211; cervical lymph node groups<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993366;\">Allergy<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During the history-taking consider the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is the precise nature of the complaint?<\/li>\n<li>How long has the feeling of having a lump in the throat been present?<\/li>\n<li>Does the patient also have a sore throat?<\/li>\n<li>Is he frequently tired?<\/li>\n<li>Does he often feel cold or, on the contrary, hot?<\/li>\n<li>Does he perspire a lot?<\/li>\n<li>Does the patient suffer from constipation or, on the contrary, diarrhoea?<\/li>\n<li>Has the patient gained any weight or lost weight?<\/li>\n<li>Any change in appetite?<\/li>\n<li>Has the patient, or someone he knows, noticed something about his eyes lately?<\/li>\n<li>Does he suffer from double vision?<\/li>\n<li>Does he feel that he is shaking?<\/li>\n<li>Has the patient experienced any palpitations (fast heart rhythm)<\/li>\n<li>Does the patient have any menstruation abnormalities (if applicable)?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the neck region there are two organ systems that will be discussed as part of this book.
