If the latter is the case, move the conjunctiva over the eye globe with a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">cotton bud<\/span>, dampened with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">physiological saline solution<\/span>. Distinguish if the conjunctival injection is present in the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>sclera<\/strong><\/span> or <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>conjunctiva<\/strong><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">If the <em>visible vessels<\/em> are located in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">conjunctiva<\/span>, they will move along across the eye globe. <\/span><span style=\"color: #003366;\">If the <em>vessels<\/em> are in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">sclera<\/span>, they will remain <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>stationary<\/strong><\/span>. If the former is true, there will often be conjunctival injection or redness visible during inspection of the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>tarsal conjunctiva<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Ask the patient to look <em>up<\/em>, <em>down<\/em>, <em>left<\/em> and <em>right<\/em>. If you observe <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">damage<\/span> to the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>conjunctiva<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>sclera<\/strong><\/span> or <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>cornea<\/strong><\/span>, or identify a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>foreign object<\/strong><\/span> in one of these structures; this will need to be investigated further with the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>slit-shaped<\/strong><\/span> light of the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>funduscope<\/strong><\/span> <em><strong>[Figure 59]<\/strong><\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Engage it by using the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">handle<\/span> located at the <em>base<\/em> of the funduscope. Illuminate the eye at approximately <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>45\u00b0<\/strong><\/span>. Keep it at a distance that makes the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">stripe-shaped light<\/span> smallest when it reaches the eye. Start the examination in the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>lateral corner<\/strong><\/span> of the eye and <em>slowly<\/em> move the light across the eye globe.
