    The Slit Lamp<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

    This instrument [Figure 61]<\/strong><\/em> stands on a height-adjustable rest<\/strong><\/span> [1]<\/strong>. It consists of a support piece for the patient\u2019s head and an optical section.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The support consists of a height-adjustable chin rest<\/strong><\/span> [2]<\/strong> and a forehead rest<\/strong><\/span> [3]<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The slide rod<\/strong><\/span> [4]<\/strong> of the chin rest will often have a mark<\/strong><\/span> [5]<\/strong> that indicates the height at which the patient\u2019s eyes should be for the examination.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The optical section<\/span> [6]<\/strong> is also height-adjustable, allowing optimal positioning of the light<\/span> in relation to the eye of the patient.<\/span><\/p>\n

    By using the handle<\/span> [7]<\/strong>, you can facilitate a millimetre by millimetre scan of the eye globe with the slit-shaped light beam. In the optical section, there is a light source that can be adjusted from diffuse to slit-shaped. With the diffuse light, the cornea<\/strong><\/span>, sclera<\/strong><\/span> and conjunctiva<\/strong><\/span> can be inspected. Various colour filters (green, blue<\/em>) can be placed in front of this light source, depending on the indication for the examination. <\/span><\/p>\n

    Examine the eye by looking through two oculars<\/strong><\/span> [8]<\/strong>. These oculars can be adjusted depending on the eye distance (PD<\/em>) of the examiner. If needed, the plus or minus correction of the examiner can also be adjusted. <\/span><\/p>\n

    There is also the option of looking at the patient\u2019s eye at different <\/span>magnifications<\/span> [9]<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
