Provide a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>tissue<\/strong><\/span> to wipe off the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">excess fluid<\/span> (<em>fluorescein stains clothing<\/em>).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Remove the fluorescein strips from the sterile packaging, without touching the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>yellow-coloured ends<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Wet the yellow ends with a drop of <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>sterile physiological saline solution<\/strong><\/span> (<em>avoid contact with the strip and the bottle of liquid<\/em>) and tap off the excess liquid.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Pull down the lower eyelid with the fingers of your one hand, and ask the patient to <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>look up<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">With the yellow-coloured end of the strip, briefly dab <em><strong>[Figure 55]<\/strong><\/em> the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>conjunctiva<\/strong><\/span> underneath the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>cornea<\/strong><\/span> and ask the patient to <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>blink<\/strong> <\/span>their eyelids.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #003366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1629\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/EyeVision_ey-fig-55.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/EyeVision_ey-fig-55.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/EyeVision_ey-fig-55-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><strong><span style=\"width: 400px; display: block;\">Figure 55<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">If necessary, repeat this a few times until <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>sufficient colouring<\/strong><\/span> of the eye globe has been achieved. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">As soon as the required level of colouring is reached, the patient is allowed to hold their head straight or sit upright (<em>unless the examination requires the patient to be in a different position<\/em>).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Procedure Allow the patient to bend their head backwards or ask them to lie down on the examination table.
