When the foreign object is stuck in the nasal cavity, the patient may be panicking because <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">breathing<\/span> is affected. In such cases, the procedure sometimes has to be conducted under a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">light general anaesthetic<\/span> in hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/122522942?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Procedure<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The patient sits on a chair with good back support.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\"> Sit on a height-adjustable stool beside or in front of the patient. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Your eyes should be at the same height as the patient\u2019s ear. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Ensure that all required materials are ready for use.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Apply the ear speculum to your otoscope.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Ask the patient or their guardian to hold the upper ridge of the auricle, and to pull it in a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>postero-superior<\/strong><\/span> direction <em><strong>[Figure 81]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #003366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1566\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/EarNoseMouth_enm-fig-81.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/EarNoseMouth_enm-fig-81.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/EarNoseMouth_enm-fig-81-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><strong><span style=\"width: 400px; display: block;\">Figure 81<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Slide the retractable lens of the otoscope far enough to the side to allow the hook to pass alongside <em><strong>[Figure 82]<\/strong><\/em>. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Looking through the speculum, carefully insert it into the auditory meatus with your non-dominant hand. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">With your dominant hand, insert the hook with the opened part positioned horizontally, via the speculum. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">When you are underneath the object, carefully try to turn the hook into an upwards vertical position. If this is not successful carefully move marginally further into the ear and try again. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The latter should be done very carefully.
