{"id":1424,"date":"2010-12-05T12:15:27","date_gmt":"2010-12-05T12:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/subclavian-artery\/"},"modified":"2023-11-08T16:03:11","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T16:03:11","slug":"subclavian-artery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/index.php\/bandages-and-bandaging-techniques\/controlling-bleeding-and-wound-care\/subclavian-artery\/","title":{"rendered":"Subclavian Artery"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong><em>Indication:<\/em> <\/strong><\/span>For <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>arterial bleeding<\/strong><\/span> of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">upper arm<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">shoulder<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">axilla<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">If compression of the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>brachial artery<\/strong><\/span> is impossible or ineffective in the case of bleeding from the forearm, the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>subclavian artery<\/strong><\/span> is the next pressure point.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong><em>Pressure Point:<\/em> <\/strong><\/span>The <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>subclavian artery<\/strong><\/span> comes out of the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>thoracic cavity<\/strong><\/span>, over the first rib and at the collar bone turns towards the arm. The pressure point is located between the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">collar bone<\/span> and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">trapezium muscle<\/span>, halfway along the collar bone.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Procedure<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Place your thumb in the gap between the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">trapezium muscle<\/span> and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">collar bone<\/span>, halfway along the collar bone. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Place your fingers on the patient&#8217;s shoulders <em><strong>[Figure 8]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #003366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1422\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-8.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-8-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><strong><span style=\"width: 400px; display: block;\">Figure 8<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Move the patient&#8217;s head towards the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">pressure point<\/span> to relax the muscles in that area. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">This makes it easier to reach the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>subclavian artery<\/strong><\/span>. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Firmly push your thumb straight down, onto the first rib <em><strong>[Figure 9]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #003366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1423\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-9.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Bandages_ba-fig-9-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><strong><span style=\"width: 400px; display: block;\">Figure 9<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indication: For arterial bleeding of the upper arm, shoulder and axilla.
