{"id":1416,"date":"2010-12-05T12:09:46","date_gmt":"2010-12-05T12:09:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/first-aid-venous-bleeding\/"},"modified":"2023-11-10T10:29:13","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T10:29:13","slug":"first-aid-venous-bleeding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/index.php\/bandages-and-bandaging-techniques\/controlling-bleeding-and-wound-care\/first-aid-venous-bleeding\/","title":{"rendered":"First Aid: Venous Bleeding"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">First aid in the case of venous bleeding is the same as that for arterial bleeding, the only difference being that the procedure is carried out in a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">different sequence<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Procedure<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Exert pressure on the <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>damaged vein<\/strong><\/span> in the wound. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">If the bleeding is only slight, application of a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>compression bandage<\/strong><\/span> may control the bleeding. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Moderate bleeding from a superficial vein can also be controlled by exerting pressure on the skin, at a point distal to the wound. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">If there is significant bleeding from a vein, for example in the case of varicose veins, it may be necessary to use your thumb to compress the damaged vein within the wound. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">If the damage is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not too extensive<\/span>, a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>blood clot<\/strong><\/span> will form and adequately close off the opening in the blood vessel after about 10 minutes. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Always apply a compression bandage after having controlled the bleeding.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>Elevate<\/strong><\/span> the injured part of the body above the level of the heart. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">This should only be done if the vein has been <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">compressed<\/span>, proximal to the wound or if the opening in the blood vessel has been <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">closed off<\/span> in an airtight manner. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The suction effect as the blood drains away can result in air entering the blood circulation if the blood vessel is still open.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First aid in the case of venous bleeding is the same as that for arterial bleeding, the only difference being that the procedure is carried out in a different sequence.
