{"id":1415,"date":"2010-12-05T12:07:57","date_gmt":"2010-12-05T12:07:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/first-aid-arterial-bleeding\/"},"modified":"2023-11-10T10:31:20","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T10:31:20","slug":"first-aid-arterial-bleeding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/index.php\/bandages-and-bandaging-techniques\/controlling-bleeding-and-wound-care\/first-aid-arterial-bleeding\/","title":{"rendered":"First Aid: Arterial Bleeding"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Procedure<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Immediately <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>elevate<\/strong><\/span> the wound above the level of the heart, and avoid any unnecessary muscle activity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Interrupt the blood supply to the ruptured artery by <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>exerting pressure<\/strong><\/span> on the artery proximal to wound site.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Once the bleeding has been stopped by exerting pressure on the supply artery, apply a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>compression bandage<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Stop applying pressure to the supply artery after the compression bandage has been applied.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Transport the victim to the hospital as quickly as possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">If it is not possible to close the artery by applying pressure at a site proximal to the wound, the bleeding must be stopped by compressing the damaged artery inside the wound until treatment of the victim can be taken over in the clinic.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Procedure Immediately elevate the wound above the level of the heart, and avoid any unnecessary muscle activity.
