Because the wax layer has not been removed from this cotton wool, it <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>does not absorb moisture<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>retains body heat<\/strong><\/span>. Non-absorbent wadding is very springy and is therefore used as <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>padding material<\/strong> <\/span>and to ensure <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>even pressure distribution<\/strong><\/span>. A disadvantage is that non-absorbent wadding tends to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">disintegrate quickly<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">gives off fluff<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em>Synthetic Wadding.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">A <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>woven material<\/strong><\/span> of high quality <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>Dacron polyester fabric<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0or <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>polyamide<\/strong><\/span>. This wadding is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">highly elastic<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">moisture permeable<\/span>. It is used as a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>padding material<\/strong><\/span>, for example in plaster casts or as a layer under compression bandages to ensure <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>even pressure distribution<\/strong><\/span>. The structure of the fibres allows the layers to lock together, as a result of which this synthetic wadding shifts less than non-absorbent cotton wadding.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em>Non-Absorbent Bleached Cotton.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">To prevent fluff being given off, the wadding is coated with a thin layer of adhesive. <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>Bleached non-absorbent cotton wool<\/strong><\/span> is used in the same way as <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>unbleached non-absorbent cotton wool<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Other pressure-distributing materials made of <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>foam rubber<\/strong><\/span> and other <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>synthetic materials<\/strong><\/span> are also commercially available. These are used in combination with <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>support<\/strong><\/span> or <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>immobilising bandages<\/strong><\/span> to prevent bed sores.
