Introduction<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Intracutaneous<\/strong> suturing<\/strong><\/span> produces an attractive end result because there are no visable points of entry or exit of suturing material.<\/span><\/p>\n

Intracutaneous suturing may be considered for wounds that meet the following criteria:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • There is no tension in the wound margins.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • The wound is uncontaminated (intracutaneous suturing requires the wound to be hermetically sealed<\/em>).<\/span><\/li>\n
  • The edges of the wound must be straight.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Material<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

    Atraumatic reabsorbable or monofilament non-reabsorbable suture.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n

    Procedure<\/span><\/h3>\n
      \n
    • Establish the first point of entry along the extension of the wound margin <\/span>about 1 cm from the beginning of the wound [Figure 35-a]<\/em><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Affix the suture to the skin by either tying a few knots in the end of the suture or adhering the end to the skin with a suture strip.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Allow the needle to enter in the corner of the wound [Figure 35-b]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Insert the needle \u00bd cm intracutaneously in one of the wound margins <\/span>[Figure 35-c]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • Exit \u00bd cm further intracutaneously in the opposite wound margin.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • \u201cZigzag<\/em>\u201d in this manner over the entire length of the wound margins.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • The final exit point should be along the extension of the wound margin beyond the end of the wound.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Affix the suture thread by adhering it to the skin with plasters, or by tying a few knots in the thread.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
