Introduction<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

For a good end result, the following recommendations must be followed:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Work atraumatically. <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Injure as little tissue as possible with the tweezers. <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Do not cauterise near the skin and use atraumatic suture material.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Adapt the wound margins. <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Distances between the wound and the suture should remain equal (about 0.5 cm<\/em>), and the distance between stitches should also remain equal. <\/span><\/li>\n
  • The suture must extend to the deepest part of the wound so that all layers of the cutis adapt. <\/span><\/li>\n
  • To avoid \u201cdog-earing<\/em>\u201d with larger wounds, one or more positional stitches should be made in the middle first.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Avoid ischaemia. <\/span><\/li>\n
  • For V- or T-shaped wounds<\/strong><\/span>, intracutaneous three-point stitches are made (a stitch directly through the skin flap can lead to necrosis<\/em>). <\/span><\/li>\n
  • In some cases, the vulnerable skin flap can be kept in place with a suture strip <\/span>[Figure 16]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Avoid tension. <\/span><\/li>\n
    • For curved incisions, take larger steps on the outer side of the curve than on the inner side [Figure 17]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Wound margins that are already under some tension can be sutured using a Donati suture<\/strong><\/span>. The suture thread must not be pulled too tightly. This can have a negative effect<\/span> on circulation (and therefore healing<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n
