{"id":1330,"date":"2010-12-04T15:24:00","date_gmt":"2010-12-04T15:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/inspection-of-the-feet-in-prone-position\/"},"modified":"2023-11-20T10:19:39","modified_gmt":"2023-11-20T10:19:39","slug":"inspection-of-the-feet-in-prone-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/index.php\/the-examination-of-the-lower-extremities\/the-examination-of-children\/inspection-of-the-feet-in-prone-position\/","title":{"rendered":"Inspection Of The Feet In Prone Position"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Inspection Of The Feet In Prone Position<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The child lies in prone position with stretched hips and knees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examine one leg first and then the other.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring the knee into <strong>90\u00b0 flexion<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inspect the plantar side of the foot. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The medial edge of the foot should form a <strong>straight line<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the forefoot makes a <strong>medially-inclined angle<\/strong> with respect to the rear foot, it may indicate <strong>metatarsus adductus<\/strong> (<em>only adduction of the forefoot<\/em>) or <strong>metatarsus varus<\/strong> (<em>an inversion component is present as well as adduction of the forefoot<\/em>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stabilise the foot if necessary by placing at most one finger on the sole of the child\u2019s foot.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determine the angle that the foot (<em>reference line is a line through the third shaft<\/em>) makes with a straight line (<em>running in a proximal to distal direction<\/em>) through the middle of the upper leg. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Normally, the foot is at <strong>0-20\u00b0<\/strong> with respect to the line through the upper leg and should point laterally (<em>except in the case of neonates where the foot will point slightly more medially<\/em>). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the foot is pointing more than <strong>5\u00b0 medially<\/strong>, the child will be pigeon-toed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Inspection Of The Feet In Prone Position Procedure<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[72],"tags":[144],"class_list":["post-1330","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-the-examination-of-children","tag-the-examination-of-the-lower-extremities"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Inspection Of The Feet In Prone Position - Qpercom | Skills in Medicine<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Online Mock OSCEs with examiners, patient actors, instant results and personalised feedback.
