A difference in leg length may also be manifest.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Test For Limited Abduction <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Procedure<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The child lies in supine position.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Flex the knees <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>maximally<\/strong><\/span> and flex the hips by about<span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong> 90\u00b0<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Next abduct both hips<em><strong> [Figure 145]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #003366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1319\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-145.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-145.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-145-300x273.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><strong><span style=\"width: 300px; display: block;\">Figure 145<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">At the age of three months, the hips can be abducted by between <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>80-90\u00b0<\/strong><\/span>. Abduction of <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>less than 70\u00b0<\/strong><\/span> should be regarded as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">abnormal<\/span>. In the case of <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>bilateral dislocation<\/strong><\/span>, the limited abduction will be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">symmetrical<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Galeazzi\u2019s Test<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Procedure<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The child lies in supine position, preferably on the examination table.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Flex the knees and hips so that the feet are precisely next to each other on the examination table.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">At eye level, look from the foot end and from the sides or from the head end, to ascertain whether the knees are at the same height.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The result is positive if there is a difference in the height of the knees, with the knee on the side of the dislocated hip being lower.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">At the age of three months, a difference in leg length may not yet be very pronounced and can therefore be missed. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">In the case of bilateral displacement, there will be no difference in leg length.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since Ortolani\u2019s and Barlow\u2019s tests can normally no longer be performed in infants, the diagnosis of a hip disorder in this age group is based on demonstrating the presence of limited abduction.
