Only posterior horn injuries are detectable, as anterior horn injuries can almost never be entrapped in the joint.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Test For The Medial Meniscus<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Procedure<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/124602351?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The patient lies on the examination table in supine position with extended hips and knees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Stand on the side of the leg to be tested and bring the knee into 90\u00b0 flexion. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Use one hand to take hold of the calcaneus and use the fingers of the other hand to palpate the posterior section of the medial joint space <em><strong>[Figure 85]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #003366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1247\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-85.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-85.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-85-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><strong><span style=\"width: 400px; display: block;\">Figure 85<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Bring the leg in maximum flexion at the hip and knee and then externally rotate the lower leg.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">From this position, stretch the knee while still palpating the medial joint space<em><strong> [Figure 86]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Compare left and right.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #003366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1248\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-86.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-86.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-86-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><strong><span style=\"width: 400px; display: block;\">Figure 86<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The test is <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>positive<\/strong><\/span> if a painful snap occurs in the knee during the extension of the leg. It is inconclusive if the patient indicates postero-medial joint space tenderness. Crepitations at the postero-medial joint space may indicate a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>degenerative posterior horn rupture<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">A positive test result makes an injury to the medial meniscus likely. However, various investigations have demonstrated that false-negative results occur frequently.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Test For The Lateral meniscus<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Procedure<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The patient lies on the examination table in supine position with extended hips and knees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Stand on the side of the leg to be tested and bring the knee into 90\u00b0 flexion. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">With one hand holding the calcaneus, use the fingers of the other hand to palpate the lateral joint space.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Bring the leg into maximum flexion at the hip and the knee <em><strong>[Figure 85]<\/strong><\/em>, and then rotate the lower leg inwards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">From this position, extend the knee while still palpating the lateral joint space<em><strong> [Figure 87]<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Compare left and right.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span class=\"jce_caption\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #003366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1249\" style=\"margin: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/cloverock.info\/mockosce23\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-87.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-87.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.qpercom.com\/sim\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/LowerExtrem_le-fig-87-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><strong><span style=\"width: 400px; display: block;\">Figure 87<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The test is <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>positive<\/strong><\/span> if a painful snap in the knee occurs during the extension of the leg. However, pain without snapping during this manoeuvre can also point to a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>meniscal injury<\/strong><\/span>. Crepitations at the height of the lateral joint space may be indicative of a <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>degenerative posterior horn rupture<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>McMurray test<\/strong><\/span> is also performed with <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>valgus<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>varus stress<\/strong><\/span>. There are also various other meniscus tests (<em>Steinmann\u2019s test, Apley\u2019s test, B\u00f6hler\u2019s test<\/em>).
