Qpercom Ltd spun-out from the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2008. Over the past seven years we have become a global leader in OSCE software, providing bespoke assessment solutions to many prestigious universities including Dundee University, Karolinska Institute and the National University of Singapore.
Our original OSCE Management Information System (OMIS, now Observe) caters for the smallest and largest assessments worldwide, allowing for psychometric analysis, Excel output of all data, Borderline Regression Analysis (pre and post assessment standard setting) and support for Generalizability Analysis. Developed by medical educators, for medical educators, this web-application allows Schools of Medicine and Health Care Sciences to plan and perform OSCEs, as well as conduct detailed instant analysis on results while the OSCE is ongoing.
Our portfolio of software and analysis features exists under our core product, Qpercom. Meet the Team
Dr. Thomas J.B. Kropmans, PhD, MSc. – Director/CEO
Senior Lecturer Medical Informatics & Medical Education
National University of Ireland Galway
Dr Thomas Kropmans was born in Limburg, The Netherlands in 1957 and holds a B.Sc. in Physiotherapy; a MSc. in Pediatric Physiotherapy; a MSc. in Education, Psychology and Social Sciences, and a PhD in Medical Sciences (Clinical Decision Making).
Following a successful career as a pediatric physiotherapist, Dr Kropmans graduated from the University of Groningen (Master of Education, Psychology and Social Sciences) in the Netherlands. After the completion of his PhD in clinical research he started a second career as educational consultant at the School of Medicine, University of Groningen before moving to Ireland to work at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Thomas was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Medical Informatics and Medical Education at NUIG’s School of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science in 2006. In his current position Thomas is Director of the Postgraduate Diploma/ Masters in Medical Science as well as teaching undergraduate medical students in information retrieval, storage and analyses (Evidence Based Medicine).
Thomas founded Qpercom together with David Cunningham in December 2008. The OSCE Management Information System was developed, validated and implemented within his domain at the School of Medicine, National University of Ireland, Galway. This work was nominated for the prestigious Ronald Harden Innovation in Medical Education Award of the International Medical University in Kuala Lumpur. Recently Dr Kropmans has presented his research, based on data collected using OMIS, at conferences in London, Malta, Singapore and Milan and has built a reputation as one of the leading researchers of Medical Education in the world. David Cunningham – Director/ Chief Operations Officer
Senior Software Engineer/ Project Manager
David Cunningham was born in Wexford, the Republic of Ireland, and holds a B.Sc. in Computer & Software Engineering from Athlone Institute of Technology and a Higher Diploma in Software Design & Development from the National University of Ireland, Galway.
In September 2007 he was appointed as a Medical Informatics Researcher at the National University of Ireland Galway. During his time as a researcher David won an award from Graham Technologies for his work on measuring human performance. David co-founded Qpercom with Dr Kropmans in 2008 and further developed the OSCE Management Information System and the Safety Assessment Management Information System. As Chief Operations Officer David is responsible for the Research and Development of Qpercom’s systems as well as ensuring the installation of OMIS within our client base.
José Jaferson M. G. da Silva – Software Engineer
José Jaferson M. G. da Silva is from the city of Recife in the Northeast of Brazil. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and has been working as a web developer since 2008. During this time he has participated in IT projects using JAVA and PHP giving him a strong background in both technologies.
José has moved to Ireland to get new life experience and he joined Qpercom’s team in December 2015. His current activities are focused around Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), a new and challenging way to bridge the gap between Competency Based Assessment and Workplace Based Assessment. José is building a web-based tool to retrieve, store, edit and analyse EPAs for one of our most prestigious professional bodies.
Enda Phelan – Software Engineer
Enda Phelan is from a small village in Sligo, Ireland. In 2016 he completed a BSc in Computing in Software Development from Institute of Technology Sligo.
In his time studying at IT Sligo, he gained a strong knowledge across the entire software development spectrum, with a focus on .NET development. He has also worked on several different projects in a variety of technologies, including Java, Android, AngularJS and PHP. Enda is currently working on expanding and improving our suite of assessment tools.
Enda Griffin – Learning Technologist & Client Relations
Enda Griffin hails from Kerry and holds a BA degree in Business Information Systems. Due to a strong interest in mental health and well-being, he completed a Higher Diploma in Psychology from NUI Galway in 2012.
After graduating, Enda worked for the HSE on the development of a pilot mental health website, apsi.ie, which delivers psycho-education and computerised Cognitive Behaviour Therapy(cCBT) to service users as part of the APSI Stepped Care model. He has also worked within the School of Medicine at NUI Galway as a learning technologist helping staff develop quality e-learning resources on core medical topics to enhance learning.

Deborah Coffey – Marketer
Deborah Coffey is originally from the West of Ireland, and holds a Bachelor of Business Studies (GMIT), and a Masters in Marketing (NUI Galway).
Deborah’s career to date comprises marketing, operations and advertising roles. Commencing her career in digital marketing with Pigsback.com in Ireland and Canada, Deborah delivered campaigns for a wide variety of local and international brands. In Australia, Deborah worked in digital marketing in Sydney and in advertising for Seven West Media in Perth. At Qpercom, Deborah focuses on inbound marketing and brand management.
Sergio Franco – Software Engineer
Sergio comes to Qpercom from Asturias in Northern Spain. As a Software Engineer, Sergio completed his undergraduate degree in the University of Oviedo. Distributed systems, functional programming and concurrency are special interests of Sergio’s. At Qpercom, he is currently working on Qpercom Analyse, an advanced analysis solution.
